I have owned this watch for approx 6 weeks now. It comes with a very thick manual which thankfully is easy to understand. It needs to be thick because there are lots of functions.
I use this for mountain biking and hill walking and going fishing. It is very robust, surprisingly larger than I thought it would be and easy to use.
I have a caravan in North Wales I use at weekends which is about 2 miles inland so the tidal graph is very handy for me to know the best times to wander off down to the coast with my fishing tackle. Also, the moon graph is handy for predicting when the highest tides will be in the month.
The compass is no replacement for a proper Silva compass but would come in handy in the odd situation where you may need to know your bearings when you don't have a compass at hand.
The altimeter needs calibrating regularly as it works from baromatric pressure. My house is at 115metres and every few days depending on the changes in weather it can read 180 metres or 50 metres so you must calibrate it to a known height on an OS map before you set off.
Also, the barometer may need calibrating from time to time. I usually set mine to the weather page on BBCs website. The barometer is good because it records history of the weather hourly as does the altimeter.
There are plenty of other goodies on this watch and it's a handy tool.
If you don't need these extra functions then you might be better off with a more basic G-Shock. If you want more then I would go for a GPS watch.

I wanted visible:- Day/Date/Time (in24hrs)with a light, water resisitant and a none resin strap, (because they keep splitting)BINGO. A simple watch, which will apparently time things, or count down, or tell me the time in New York, and such things. Only down side is the convex lens, presumably to slightly magnify the display, I've had similar before, therefore I accept that it will get scratched, and I will have to live with. It's like anything else, the first little scratch looks terrible but the hundredth doesn't matter a jot.

This is one hell of a watch in every sense coming from Casio who are normally known for their classic resin body G shocks that we have all come to like over the last 25 Years.

This watch borders on being a Maritime/Aviation themed Chronograph featuring solar power and radio controlled timekeeping with alarm, timer, stopwatch, world time and a host of features even James Bond would love. I was impressed by the solid stainless feel and look to this watch and that also apart from slight wear to the Black IP band does not age at all and looks new the whole time. The black IP band was a concern to me but when researching about testing these in simulated persperation tests they have a 24-48 hour anti abrasion green light, the only wear is on the inside of the bracelet where the trifold clasp sits in when the watch is being worn.One small quibble is the complex operation and having to really study the instruction manual but dont let that put you off as once you have mastered each operation you are in business plus these watches are made for people who want extensive operation and gadgetry. Overall the two tone grey colouring make this a stunning timepiece and is excellent value for the money paid and could easily give those old dated Rolex submariners a run for their money as Casio have come up with a high quality and robust watch which will suit businessmen and travellers alike plus anyone in aviation/special ops/military.

The watch to last a lifetime.

I bought this watch because it is solar powered and radio controlled. It's a maintenance free watch! I like a watch to have an analogue face which this also fits the bill (with a small unobtrusive digital readout for digital functions). I am not keen on plastic and had not realised from the picture this watch has a plastic moulded body. So when it arrived I was a little disappointed but I liked it's general appearance and decided to keep the watch. Good decision. I've been using it now for some time and I have to say it is a great watch. Accurate as you like and the solar battery charges up plenty with only normal exposure to light. Went to France and reset to Paris time was a doddle. Only four adjustment buttons - read the instructions to see how the functions are accessed. All pretty straightforward for anyone who has owned a digital watch in the past. In summary this is a very reasonably priced watch for the specification. It has classic looks but has cutting edge technology built in. I would highly recommend this timepiece and would buy another straight away if I lost or broke it.

Of course all radio controlled watches are superior to ordinary quartz versions because the time and date are always completely accurate to a fraction of a second as a result of receiving a daily signal from an atomic clock. In recent years Casio have become the leading manufacturer of highly reliable radio controlled watches. This particular watch is unusual in that the case appears to be constructed entirely of stainless steel and yet is still able to receive a time signal - most other radio controlled watches either have plastic cases or glass backs to allow the signal to penetrate. Having recently purchased this watch I have to say that I am delighted with the watch. Initially I was concerned that the watch may be on the bulky side but even on my small wrist it looks fine.

Delivery of the watch only took three days with free delivery and arrived safe and secure in an outer box for protection.

Initial setting up of the watch was relatively easy and now it automatically adjusts itself to the correct time every night whilst I sleep, no more adjusting of watch until the battery expires.

I had to shorten the metal watch strap but again it was only a matter of tapping out some pins removing the links and reassembling - a ten minute job.

Everyone who has seen the watch has admired it and are surprised when I tell them the price. So all in all a great watch for relatively little money and always spot on time.

I chose this watch due to the smaller size than the triple sensor models and the fact that I don't trust electronic compasses. The watch is, as a result a little smaller than the triple sensor models, but its specification and performance are cellent. I like the titanium bracelet, which makes it feel secure on my wrist. The face crystal is slightly sunken into the watch head to give it a little extra protection. The tough solar system keeps it well charged even in my display watch box. The barometer function is accurate (checked against local weather station values)and easy to understand. The altimeter setting has slight drawbacks, which Casio make you aware of, so easy to negotiate. The instruction manual is clear and concise and the overall use of the watch is logical and intuitive, so you can get by without the manual as well. I particularly like the world time function and it is accurate for some obscure countries (which I visit), which are 15 and 30 minutes out of sync with the normal time zone system. Overall, I am highly impressed and very happy with this watch. At less than £100, a real bargain.

I have just replaced one of these "like for like" after losing one, as it suits what I want: a clear main analogue dial and a secondary LCD display that can be used as a stopwatch or for a second time zone (good when travelling and you can't be bothered to work out what time it is at home).



Just one minor gripe really: the date is shown in US format, i.e. month-day, not the day-month format we're more used to in the UK, and it doesn't seem to be possible to change that.



This can't be described as a "dress watch" but for sports and travelling, it's well worth a look.

Best watch i've ever owned.



I've worn it to work, to the pub, to the club and a few times with a suit. Looks good to me.



Great night light (comes on as you raise your wrist in dim light). Glow in the dark hands and digits anyway. All the usual casio features ie. stopwatch, alarm etc. (auto switch between daylight saving/summertime).



Fairly small secondary dials/display, no problem to me, possibly too small for some.



I am 100% happy with my new, reasonably priced, G-SHOCK watch!

I gave this watch 3 stars only because of the 3 small viewing holes to view its functions. I have to say though, in fairness, my eyesight has deteriorated but you must understand, I am not blind either? The two outside portholes are for, on the left the radio signal and on the right a 20 second LCD segment counter. The centre one though is for all other functions such as date-time-stopwatch-seconds-etc. The problem really comes in viewing the tiny figures in this centre window. It may be OK for younger people (as it looks very stylish) but along with the blue light, which is just OK to illuminate the face in the dark, you just can't see what the centre window is displaying. Other than that, is does what it says on the tin and my main reason I bought this new watch, was its features. I of course cannot test the 200m water resistance feature but if its anything like my last Casio which I dived with regularly to 30m, I reckon the fish are still being woke up everyday at 6:30-am in the Indian ocean. By the way, the Stainless Steel bracelet is first class and adds to the heavy body.

If you want a tough go anywhere sporty watch then this "chunky" casio G Shock GW-1400DU is a great choice. I have 7" wrists and this impressive looking watch looks great and is very comfortable to ware with its mixture of matt/shiny 143gms of stainless steel. I had to remove 4 links to fit - very easy with a small head jewelers type screw driver; just compress the linking barrel spring in the direction of the arrow on each link and job done in 5 min. The waveceptor radio time syncing works a treat and keeps exact time whenever I check it against the BT speaking clock or radio time pips. The solar cell keeps it charged so no future replacement batteries to worry about. When I first had this watch delivered the battery level indicator was showing "Mid' but after a few hours in the sun was showing "High". The light feature works very well either set to optional automatic when you tilt your wrist to see the time or when turning on manually - it gives a nice blue light to the watch face. This watch has a very good "Quality" feel to it and is very well put together. Only slightly negative things are the digital display windows are a bit small to see (I'm late 50s so could be my eyes!), alarm sound could be a bit louder, the small but comprehensive instruction book has very small type (if you can download the instructions from Casio web site for easier reading). Overall this watch fits the ethos of Casios G Shock series very well and I highly recommend it.

I was looking forward to receiving this watch and especially at the bargain price that Amazon were selling it for, but after a 10 day wait, I was very underwhelmed once the watch actually arrived.



The bracelet feels cheap & flimsy, the thin hands and 'cluttered' dial design make it hard to read the time and the bezel doesn't actual rotate - it's purely for show.



The only reason that I gave this more than 1 star is the fact that it was under half price and the waveceptor 'atomic' technology is kind of neat!

A watch that is controlled by the time calibration signals in the UK and Europe should be good - but it isn't! It's large and clunky (45mm diameter, 15mm thick), has lots of buttons and an interminable instruction manual (which you will need to take with you when you go travelling to make all the adjustments) I'm sure the watch will appeal to teenage boys who will play with it for hours! I would rate it as "no star" but unfortunately, one star is the minimum you are allowed to give.
